Description
Temperature can drastically affect the buoyancy of a hydrometer. Traditionally, the only way to get an accurate hydrometer reading was to measure your syrup sample’s temperature and then use a compensation chart to calculate where the hydrometer should actually be floating. What a pain!
The Murphy Compensation Float does all those calculations for you so you NEVER have to even think about it again. The dial on the Murphy Compensation Float will indicate the actual location of 66.9ºBRIX on your hydrometer based on your syrup sample’s current temperature. If your syrup sample’s temperature changes, so will the reading on Murphy’s dial, giving you the real-time feedback you need to take an accurate measurement.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR CARE
Never submerge the face of your Murphy Dial in liquid nor expose it to excessive steam/moisture for extended periods of time. To safely clean the dial, simply wipe the face with a clean, damp cloth. Never turn or alter the screw on the back of the dial.

The Murphy Compensation Float uses the same technology and principals as the Murphy Compensation Cup. The only difference is that the Murphy Float does not require you to draw a sample out of your bottler or barrel. Simply float the Murphy Compensation Float alongside a BRIX hydrometer in a larger vessel of syrup and compare the reading of the hydrometer to the reading on the dial. The dial will indicate exactly where your hydrometer should be floating based on your syrup sample’s current temperature.
NO MORE CONFUSING COMPENSATION CHARTS!
NO MORE CLUMSY THERMOMETER READINGS!
NO MORE TEDIUM!

Excellent. This is a valuable tool for bottling

I was impressed with the murphy float and murphy cup and hydrometer. This to me is a must to be able to know the density at any temperature from the barrel through bottling. I made 183 gallons of syrup this year. Smoky Lake Maple Products are impressive, I give them a 5+ Star rating. Thank You.

Thank you!

I purchased the Murphy float for the 2021 season. Never have been able to finish syrup so easily. It is fool proof. We at Paquin’s Mountain Maple love it. Wish I would have bought it sooner. So easy to use.

So smart! This is one of those products that makes you wonder why nobody ever thought of it before. It’ such a great idea. I finish my syrup inside in 6-gallon batches. In the past, I’ve taped the temperature/brix table on the cupboard and kept looking back and forth between the hydrometer and table to see where I was at. The best part about the Murphy Float was that it made it easy to monitor how close the syrup was to being finished as the temperature was going up. I know you can do this with the table, but it was just so much easier to watch the dial, especially because the table jumps almost 10 degrees between temperatures. Now I just sent my wife the link for the Murphy Cup as an “idea” for Christmas next year. I hope she remembers!

Save yourselves the trouble and buy a “Murphy Cup” or a “Murphy Float”. No chart or thermometer needed. It’s as close to a “fool proof” tool as it gets! I purchased the “float” style for last season. After the first boil, we asked ourselves why we had waited so long to buy one. We standardized 5,500 gallons of finished syrup with zero problems or questions.

Best tool we ever had for the mixing pot at draw-off! Even rank novices can nail the density consistently. My son-in law was turned into a pro over night! Sheer genius on your part, Thank you so much.
