Description
The Canadian manufacturer of this product, DSD International, promotes an environmentally friendly workplace where recycling rules. The DSD team works hard to minimize its impact on the environment in the following ways:
Ever wonder how we break down the manufacturer’s 500-foot rolls of maple tubing into the smaller 100-foot rolls? We actually use a custom-built winding machine with built-in cordage counter. That means every roll is measured with reliable precision and tubing stays perfectly clean.
(In contrast, we’ve seen our competitor drag the tubing the length of their dirty warehouse floor, cut a guessed length, and then wind it back up… That would never fly at Smoky Lake.)
But here’s what makes our process even more special: Our winding machine was designed and built by one of Smoky Lake’s founding team members, Steve Mader. Steve was a brilliant craftsman whose creativity and problem-solving shaped so much of what we do here. He passed away unexpectedly on September 24, 2021, but his ingenuity continues to shine through in our work today.
