Do I Need A Draw Off Box?

October 1, 2018

A draw-off box is a standard feature on all Smoky Lake Drop Flue Pan Sets and Raised Flue Pan Sets. It allows the draw-off valve to be positioned below the floor of the pan, creating a positive drain.

This feature is a great convenience, but not a requirement for running a professional evaporator. Since the draw off boxes add cost to the design and production of a pan, omitting the draw-off boxes can help fit into tighter budgets. To accommodate these tighter budgets, we have developed a brand of equipment called Badgerland Mapleworks. The Badgerland equipment is simplified and does not include draw-off boxes.

A Draw-off Box has two ports which allow accessories to be attached to the pan. The most common accessories would be a Auto Draw-Off Temperature Probe in the top port and a Thermometer in the bottom port. If the accessory ports are not being utilized they can be sealed with a stainless steel hex nut with thread tape.

Below is an example of a Drop Flue Pan Set with Same Side Reverse System. You can see that both of the draw-off boxes on this particular pan are located on the right side of the evaporator. If this evaporator did not have the Same Side Reverse System, one of the draw-off boxes would be located at the opposite corner of the pan.
