How to Remove Taps From The Tree

Remove the spout/spile/tap from the tree using the back of a standard hammer. (or you may choose to use a slide hammer if you are using stainless steel tubing spouts.) Gently pry out the tap without damaging the bark.

The tap hole will heal itself. Some sap may continue to drip from the tree as the tree works to heal itself. This is normal. Do NOT plug the tap hole.

If you have reusable taps — such as the Smoky Lake Stainless Steel Bucket and Bag Spouts — clean the taps with hot water, let air dry completely and store until next season.
