Mike’s Bourbon Aged Maple Syrup

September 16, 2025

A Flavor You Can’t Rush—Months in the Making.

At Smoky Lake Maple Products, we’re lucky to cross paths with some incredible producers. Today, we’re celebrating one of them: Mike Vinz of New Lisbon, Wisconsin. Mike has crafted what may very well be the finest Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup we’ve ever tasted.

This syrup is more than sweet—it’s a story in a bottle. First, the oak barrels were filled with bourbon, soaking up rich notes of caramel, char, and vanilla. Once emptied, those very same barrels were given a second life. Into them went pure maple syrup, where time and patience worked their magic. The syrup absorbed subtle hints of the bourbon’s legacy, creating a layered history and a flavor profile that is deep, complex, and, dare we say, a little enchanting.

What Makes Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup So Special?

  • The Barrels Do the Talking: Each barrel is unique. Variations in wood grain, age, and how long it originally held bourbon all play a role in shaping the syrup’s final character. No two batches are exactly alike.
  • Natural Infusion: Unlike flavored syrups that rely on additives, bourbon barrel aging is 100% natural. The maple syrup draws flavor from the oak itself—notes of smoke, vanilla, caramel, and sometimes even a whisper of spice.
  • A Nod to Tradition and Sustainability: Repurposing barrels is both practical and sustainable. Instead of being discarded, they’re honored with a new purpose that continues the story of craftsmanship.
  • The Perfect Pairings: Bourbon barrel aged maple syrup isn’t just for pancakes. Try it drizzled over ice cream, in coffee, or even as a glaze for salmon or pork. It also shines in cocktails—think an Old Fashioned with a maple twist.
