A Stiffened Gasket prevents cold air from being sucked underneath your pans which would negatively affect boiling rate. They also prevent smoke from inside the arch from escaping.
The Stiffened Gasket from Smoky Lake contains a strong spine of stainless steel which is then covered with a sleeve of fire resistant, braided rope. The ends of the sleeve are finished off with fire resistant tape to prevent fraying.
