The blower gets mounted on the back of the firebox
The blower gets mounted on the back of the firebox It's easy to add a blower to the Corsair Arch Forced Draft Kit includes domed grates This is what the side wall and ramp of the firebox should look like when bricking is complete. After running the evaporator hard for 3 hours, there were very few ashes left in the firebox. The 'holes' in the ashes indicate locations where air had been injected by the blowers.

Description

INSTALLATION

The forced draft option includes upgraded domed cast iron grates and an electric blower. If the Forced Draft Kit is ordered at the same time as the Corsair Arch, then the blower will come factory installed on the arch. Otherwise, if you order the arch as conventional draft, the back of the Corsair firebox will include a perforated knock out and mounting studs so that the Forced Draft Kit can be easily added at any time in the future. If the time comes when you need more performance, just remove the knock out, mount the blower and replace the steel grates with the kit’s new perforated, domed cast iron grates.

Attachment Hardware Included

  • 1/4" Nuts, zinc – Qty 4
  • 1/4" Lock Washers, zinc – Qty 4
  • 1/4" Flat Washers, zinc – Qty 4

Why Domed Cast Iron Grates?

Cast iron, as a material, does not have a fiber body. Therefore when heated it has no tendency to warp. The perforations are placed in a way to create the most turbulence within the firebox. Remember the 3 “T”s of combustion: Time, Temperature and TURBULENCE.

BENEFITS

  • Much higher evaporation rate compared to natural draft.
  • Easier to burn larger/unseasoned wood. This means you won’t have to cut your firewood as fine and you can burn wood that is less perfect.
  • Increased agility. You will be able to shut down your evaporator much faster because it allows firewood to burn quicker and more completely.

See the chart in “Description” in the accordion menu for additional specs and evaporator compatibility.

I ran my Corsair without forced draft for 2 seasons and adding this system has REALLY amped up the boil rate. Wow! The cast iron grates are bullet proof too.

I bought the blower and dome kit for my 2×5 Cosair Arch with a hybrid pan, this unit has very low cfm. While it makes a slight difference in the burn rate it does not perform well on under-seasoned wood. I have retained the domes in the fire box but removed the blower and patched the square opening in the back of the arch. I found the domes do a good job of dispersing air into the fire box. I found using a 3 speed 1/2 horse power floor dryer fan set on 2 with the ash door propped open to give a much better boil / evaporation rate.

The “Ash Door” that you are leaving open is actually a Natural Draft Door. When using Natural Draft, that door will be open. Conversely, when using a Blower, that door needs to be closed. If you have the Natural Draft door open when using a blower, the air cannot properly flow upward into the firebox as it was designed. So to allow max performance of your Smoky Lake blower, simply close the draft door. This simple change will yield impressive results.
