Description

Designed by a sugarmaker, refined by producer feedback. The SapMaster 5/16″ spout was designed by TJ Wood LLC in Rose Creek, Minnesota. After a first season with more than 300,000 taps in the field, the 2026 design was reworked around what producers reported: a tighter seal in the tree, a shorter pilot for smaller trees, and faster installation. SapMaster reports roughly 20% yield improvements in its 2025 testing across a wide range of locations and tree types in Canada.

What Makes It Different

  • Bottom- and front-loading tip. Sap enters through the front of the spout and through an opening on the underside, giving over 30% more inlet area. A stabilizing pilot holds the tip in position so both inlets stay open.
  • Clear polycarbonate body. High-strength, food-grade polycarbonate. You can see at a glance whether a spout is running, plugged, or frozen.
  • Steeper seal taper and bigger starting diameter. Seats firmly in a 5/16″ tap hole and holds vacuum.
  • Shorter pilot. A better fit for younger trees and older sugarbushes. Designed for tap holes under 1-1/2″ deep.
  • Short barb with a smaller starting diameter. Pushes onto 5/16″ tubing easily and is built for one-handed tool installation.
  • No parting line on the barb. A seamless barb helps prevent micro-leaks at the tubing connection.

Installation Tips

  • Drill a 5/16″ tap hole less than 1-1/2″ deep.
  • Install the spout as close to horizontal as possible. Spouts tipped downward are more likely to freeze or push out.
  • Seat the spout with light taps until the sound changes to a flatter thud. Do not twist or rotate the spout once it is in the hole, because twisting can crack it.

Can be used with or without Tubing (drop lines).
