We’ll Never Forget You, James Murphy

Today, the Smoky Lake team mourns the loss of an incredible man. Jim Murphy (Angela’s dad) has been an integral supporter and mentor since our very beginning when we were working in our garage. He was so beloved. The Murphy Compensation Cup is even named after him!

Going forward, $5 from every Murphy Cup sold will be put into a charitable fund in Jim Murphy’s memory. It’s one small way we hope to carry on his legacy, and his commitment to making the world a better place.

Today, co-owner Jim Schumacher is wearing a pair of work boots that have been passed down to him from Jim Murphy (his father-in-law). As Schumacher looked down at these boots on his feet, he said “May wearing a good man’s boots give me his simple perspective and his humility.” Murphy was the kind of person we all strive to be. Kind, fair, intelligent, funny, genuine, loyal, faithful…

Jim Murphy’s sudden passing reminds us the importance of connecting with the people we love on a routine basis. I hope that this maple season has given you an opportunity for quality time with family and friends. Be sure to give them a hug. Tell them you care.
