We recommend placing your pan’s Draw-Off Valve below the Automated Valve for two reasons. First, this manual Ball Valve can be used as a throttle, giving you more control of your draw-offs. We should always be striving for a slow, steady, controlled stream of syrup when we draw off. The second reason that we position a manual Ball Valve under the Automated Valve, is to keep the Automated Valve more lubricated. Without this Ball Valve, the Automated Valve would need to be cleaned more frequently so that it doesn’t gum up with syrup and get stuck.

This combination of hardware is used to attach a 3/4″ Automated Valve (from a Smoky Lake Auto Draw-Off System) to a 3/4″ NPT female fitting on an evaporator pan.
This branched Valve Assembly allows you to manually draw off syrup from your pan while the Automated Valve remains closed. This is helpful for doing hydrometer density tests.
The ghosted parts in the photo are parts from the Smoky Lake Auto Draw-Off System and a Smoky Lake Pan Accessory Kit.
